What’s New in SolidWorks 2015 – Chapter 4: Installation

There’s not a whole lot to discuss when it comes to the SolidWorks installation process, so there’s no real “winner” this week. Other than all of you of course.

First, Enterprise PDM now uses SolidNetWork License Manager for licensing, so all your major licenses are now stored in one place.

Also, the newest product offering, SolidWorks Inspection, will be installable from the SolidWorks Installation Manager, much like SolidWorks Electrical. You can also add SolidWorks Inspection to an admin image.

Finally, SolidWorks 2015 will require 2 DVDs “to support the 64-bit installation.” A single DVD holds 4.7 GB of data at minimum, so we know the installation files will be at least that big. In other words, be prepared for an intense installation process. Unfortunately, this also means that some human intervention will be needed halfway through the installation, so you may not be able to let it run overnight.
